WHAT: Limited Submission Proposal for the Lockheed Martin Strategic Technology Threads (STTs)
WHO: Texas A&M University faculty, including Agriculture, Engineering and TTI personnel.

WHEN: Deadline for submission of text-only abstracts is April 20, 2009.
HOW: Faculty should submit abstract via email for review by the internal selection committee.
THE FINE PRINT:
The funding agency, Lockheed Martin, has limited the number of abstracts to three per institution.
BRIEF PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Lockheed Martin Strategic Technology Threads Program (STTs) is designed to establish research activities which will: focus on technologies enabling strategic growth; provide principal support for faculty lead investigator and research team; and aim at results in about two years useful for further product development.
There are a number of subject areas which are appropriate for this program: advanced active and passive sensing; advanced and complex software; autonomous systems; biometrics; chemical-biological defense and response; decision support systems; directed energy; distributed ISR and attack, energy and power; human terrain; information assurance and information operations; nanotechnology; predictive and responsive logistics; signatures and phenomenology; and systems biology.
Further, Lockheed Martin specifies that no confidential or proprietary information should be in the abstract or accompanying material. Failure to abide by this requirement will result in deletion without review by Lockheed Martin.

Internal Selection Procedures and Deadlines
April 20, 2009: Deadline to obtain signatures of approval from your department head and college dean to submit an abstract to the Office of Sponsored Projects for review by the internal selection committee. The abstract is limited to 750 words.

This completed form should be submitted electronically for review by the internal selection committee.
*Once your internal proposal has been received with all of the necessary signatures, you will receive an email indicating it will be reviewed by the internal selection committee. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please call 5-1812.*
Please read the information provided by Lockheed Martin carefully for specific requirements of the program here.
Selection of an abstract will be based on Lockheed Martin guidelines. The needs of the university’s reinvestment plan will also be taken into account.
During the selection process, the internal selection committee may contact departments and colleges for their opinions and commitments. They may also request additional information from PIs.
April 27, 2009: The Internal Selection Committee will notify PIs of the result of the internal competition
April 28, 2009: Deadline for submission of abstract.
June, 2009: Notification from Lockheed Martin by email of each abstract evaluation status.
