WHAT: Limited Submission Proposal for The Greenwall Foundation Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics
WHO: Texas A&M University faculty, including Agriculture, Engineering and TTI personnel.
WHY: The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics anticipates selecting three individuals to begin their awards in the summer of 2009. The amount of each award is 50% of the winner’s salary for three years, as well as funds to attend an annual meeting of Scholars with the Advisory Board.
WHEN: Internal proposal deadline of September 29, 2008.
HOW: Faculty should submit internal proposal via email for review by the internal selection committee.

The funding agency below has limited the number of solicitations to one per institution. If the number of faculty wishing to submit a proposal exceeds the number allowed by the agency, we will conduct an internal selection process. Below are due dates for the program, including the due date for the internal proposal for review by the internal selection committee, the date for announcement of the internal selection, the due date for submission of the preliminary proposal to the agency and the due date for submission of the full proposal to the agency.

AGENCY PROGRAM TITLE: Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics
BRIEF PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program in Bioethics is a career development award to enable outstanding junior faculty members to carry out original research that will help resolve important policy, moral and clinical dilemmas at the intersection of ethics and the life sciences. This research will also put Faculty Scholars in a position to help set public policy and standards of clinical practice.
Priority will be given to applicants who are below the rank of Associate Professor, who have not received a comparable career development award, and whose work will have an impact on public policy or clinical practice. Within this group, priority will be given to applicants whose research addresses innovative and emerging topics. Lower priority will be given to applicants who are working on institutional change, educational reform or primarily theoretical research. Applicants who propose to carry out a conceptual or theoretical analysis should specify how such work will lead to changes in public policy or clinical practice.
In addition, Faculty Scholars will be selected on the basis of their achievements, the strength of their research project, their commitment to the field of bioethics and support from their home institution. While the amount of an applicant’s original work in bioethics will count favorably towards his or her application, outstanding candidates with less direct experience in bioethics will also be considered.

AGENCIES ELIGIBLE TO SUBMIT: This program is open to colleges, universities and non-profit research institutes in the U. S. Applicants must be junior faculty members holding at least a 60% appointment at a university or non-profit research institute in the United States.
AWARD INFORMATION: The Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program anticipates selecting three individuals to being their awards in the summer of 2009. The amount of each award is 50% of the winner’s salary for three years, as well as funds to attend an annual meeting of Scholars with the Advisory Board. Faculty Scholars will be expected to spend at least 50% time on their project.
ELILGIBLE PROJECT COSTS: Indirect Cost (F&A) Limitations: The sponsor may pay 10% on salary.
COST SHARING: Will have to be negotiated individually with the sponsor.
INTERNAL SELECTION PROCEDURES AND DEADLINES
September 26, 2008: Deadline for an email of intent, including the names of the PI, title of internal proposal and a 1-3 sentence description of the project.
September 29, 2008: Deadline to obtain signatures of approval from your department head and college dean to submit an internal proposal to the Research Policy and Development Support Office for review by the internal selection committee. The internal proposal should include:
(1) An executive summary, up to three pages, based on the proposal description as outlined in The Greenwall Foundation Program Announcement.

This completed form should be submitted electronically for review by the internal selection committee.
*Once your internal proposal has been received with all of the necessary signatures, you will receive an email indicating it will be reviewed by the internal selection committee. If you do not receive the confirmation email, please call 5-1812.*
Please read the RFP carefully for specific requirements of the program here.
Selection of internal proposals will be based on The Greenwall Foundation evaluation guidelines. Meeting the needs of the university’s reinvestment plan will also be taken into account.
During the selection process, the internal selection committee may contact departments and colleges for their opinions and comments. They may also request additional information from PI’s.
October 10, 2008: The Internal Selection Committee will notify PIs of the result of the internal competition.
November 21, 2008: The Greenwall Foundation deadline for the preliminary application (a three page letter of intent).
February, 2009: The Greenwall Foundation will invite approximately 15-20 applicants to submit full proposals.
